This book, Do Not Be Afraid of Being Excellent, Say: I Am Proud to Be Me-Poetic Affirmations from A-Z (Activities for Young Scholars) includes affirmations that can be written, repeated out loud, or in our heads. Scholars can repeat poetic affirmations as they practice positive self-talk. Positive self-talk is when we talk to ourselves out loud or in our heads, in a positive way using encouraging words. Scholars who value themselves and who speak positively about themselves can grow to view life in a more positive way.

Parents, teachers, and other adults can read the poetic affirmations and activities to and with younger scholars. Older scholars can complete the activities independently. Scholars can enjoy activities created to boost their self-esteem and confidence. This boost is supported as they engage in vocabulary building, word context, readings of historical personalities, writing prompts, word scrambles, response to writing, creating acrostics, poetry, raps, and drawings. The activities also serve as a bridge of communication between Home and School.
