The original recipes from the Irondale Cafe in Irondale, Alabama, made famous as the “Whistle Stop Cafe” by Fannie Flagg in her novel and screen­play Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Since 1973, when they purchased the cafe, Mary Jo McMichael and her husband Billy have been cook­ing up the down-home reci­pes folks all over the South, and now the nation, have grown to love. At last, Mary Jo has compiled in one complete volume the cook­ing tips, lore, and recipes that now bring internation­al visitors to the little cafe by the railroad tracks.
