This is the story of an endangered fish, the Watercress Darter, Etheostoma nuchale Howell and Caldwell 1965. It is a beautiful, multicolored, two-inch (=5.08 cm) fish that lives only in five limestone springs of Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, and its suburbs. I have had a fifty-nine-year relationship with this fish. Thus, I find it necessary to write this account in the first person. This is a personal but factual account, based on my copious collection of photographs, field collections, scientific literature, newspaper clippings, meetings, internet searches, and e-mail exchanges. I have tried my best to be accurate in the facts surrounding this fish. Any mistakes, however, are mine.

Different Vibrations https://localbooknook.com/product/different-vibrations/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=different-vibrations https://localbooknook.com/product/different-vibrations/#respond Thu, 20 May 2021 21:14:43 +0000 https://localbooknook.com/?post_type=product&p=2885

Different Vibrations is a collection of poetry written from the perspective of different kinds of people. I met these people and learned these stories while homeless and/or working as a taxi driver, an occupation like that of bartender, that assumes the roll of psychiatrist and confidant for his/her patrons. Individually poems could be categorized as comedic, adventurous, religious, etc. so it was not until I read them all together that I realized I was writing a book of love poetry. Each poem collected here reflects some form of love (eros, storge, philia, agape), and written in the voice of some beautiful broken person I have met. Looking from the outside in and other times, from within out, I learned that each person is trying to convey the most beauty out of their current love learning experience. Some of these are dark and rigid while others are bright and smooth. The truest beauty found, however, comes from the collection of all these moments, of all these pieces, of all our love. Journeying through these different vibrations is the substance of a life.

“For me, writing is a way to bring all I experience in this life closer to true understanding. I write the things I have learned in this life OR the wisdom my spirit intercepts. Sometimes it is logical, sometimes it is painful, and other times it just feels good. But my writing is truth, and truth is healing!”

Faces In The Crowd https://localbooknook.com/product/faces-in-the-crowd/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=faces-in-the-crowd https://localbooknook.com/product/faces-in-the-crowd/#respond Wed, 28 Apr 2021 18:40:45 +0000 https://localbooknook.com/?post_type=product&p=2821

The story of Christ’s journey to the cross is a familiar one within the context of the Christian Faith.
It is a well-known narrative and, as such, it features many characters who are not far from our recollection.
Judas, who betrayed Christ for 30 pieces of silver, is a familiar character. Caiaphas, the high priest who was
instrumental in the plot to crucify Christ, is a recognizable character. We have spent a great deal of time with
Peter, the disciple, who declared his undying devotion to Christ only to deny Him soon after. These characters
and their stories are important. It is needful that we take time to take a look at these well-known persons
who fill the narrative as Christ heads to the cross.

This book grew out of a series of Bible study lectures and Sunday morning sermons I delivered from on the Gospel of Mark.  It is my sincere hope that this work might be helpful to you on your Christian journey. I pray that what is expressed here might provide you with a deeper sense of how the love of God extends to both the known and the unknown, to those who are popular, and to those who are faces in the crowd.

When GOD in HIS infinite wisdom created the heavens and earth; the order of nature was established; HE formed man from the dust; shaped him in HIS image and endowed him with the ability to care for and protect everything in HIS well designed garden of paradise. As designated stewards of the earth, it is man’s responsibility to respect, protect and subdue nature in a manner that glorifies and praises the Creator for HIS works. But now in this ever changing and fast paced world of technology, man has become distracted and lost sight of his divine assignment. As a result, societal values are shifting and the natural resources of earth are in jeopardy of depletion. Before it is to late, man must recommit to his GOD ordained purpose. He must be steadfast in his efforts to preserve and protect the environment for the next generation. “Of old hast Thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of Thou hands”. – Psalm 102:25
