The original recipes from the Irondale Cafe in Irondale, Alabama, made famous as the “Whistle Stop Cafe” by Fannie Flagg in her novel and screenplay Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Since 1973, when they purchased the cafe, Mary Jo McMichael and her husband Billy have been cooking up the down-home recipes folks all over the South, and now the nation, have grown to love. At last, Mary Jo has compiled in one complete volume the cooking tips, lore, and recipes that now bring international visitors to the little cafe by the railroad tracks.
